General Motors has introduced a new generation of dexos1 engine oil, ACDelco dexos1 Gen 2 Full Synthetic! It has been newly designed to meet the lubrication needs of today’s smaller, higher performing engines. This new Gen 2 Full Synthetic replaces the dexos1 Synthetic Blend specification.
All GM engine oils are transitioning to this new formulation throughout 2017. Since dexos1 Gen 2 is fully backwards compatible with all pre-2018 model GM vehicles, the previous generation of dexos1 generation will no longer be produced after this full transition.

Why does oil type matter?
General Motors has found that using substandard oil can affect engine performance, and in the worst case scenario, may damage or harm the engine. Failure to use the recommended engine oil can also result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.
When to use dexos
You should use the dexos1 specification if you own a General Motors vehicles with a model year of 2011 and up. This includes the existing dexos1 generation and now the new dexos1 Gen 2 specification.
Know you are using dexos1 Gen 2
dexos1 Gen 2 motor oil is identified by the new dexos1 logo below. If it does not have this label, regardless of any other claims, it is NOT dexos1 Gen 2 motor oil.
Ask for and use engine oils that meet the dexos1 specification! Engine oils that have been approved by GM as meeting the dexos1 specifications are marked with the dexos1 approved logo.
